One of my favorite quirky photo subjects is photographers. I love taking pictures of people taking pictures. I suspect this is a bit of a self-defense mechanism that allows me to take photos of strangers without fear of retribution because a) they are also tourists trying to get some nice pics on their travels and b) they probably are too busy taking their shot to notice me taking their picture.
Logically the best places to get pictures of people taking pictures are those sites that are more touristy and what better tourist magnet is there in London than the hop-on hop-off double decker bus tours! We hopped on the Original Bus Tour [www.theoriginaltour.com] because we were travelling with some friends who had never been to London before. At £26 the bus tour was fairly pricey but it was a good way to quickly see the major sights of London such as the Palace of Westminster.
You can also see Tower bridge.
And if you’re really lucky you can catch two lovebirds taking a self portrait at Piccadilly Circus, although I’m not sure what is so romantic about the back of a Road Closed sign.
This post was submitted to Travel Photo Thursday [budgettravelerssandbox.com], a weekly collection of travel photos hosted by Budget Traveler’s Sandbox. Check it out for more great photos!
Update: Due to popular demand here is a bonus picture of the Road Closed couple checking out their self portrait. Because I couldn’t stop to ask their permission I won’t publish any pictures showing their faces.
This is a fun post.
Sometimes I love doing the same thing – but more often than not I feel like I’ve ruined my photo when I get other photographers snapping away.
I don’t mind as long as it’s intentional! I’ll probably do a post one day of all the ones I’ve taken from my trips. They’re kind of fun.
I like to shoot photographers too…
They always say to shoot from a different perspective!
Not really into shooting other photographers but, do for friends, sometimes. More often than not, I’m cussing the ones who pop into my compositions unexpectedly and ruin a good shot. Your lovebirds made me chuckle !
I acutally have a whole series of them taking the picture and then looking at the result. I think I might update this post with that set since people seem to like it.
Love the “road closed” couple!
Check back soon!
Great idea for photo subjects! Especially like your first pic — good timing. I think the hop-on hop-off buses are a great way to get your bearings in a new city, by the way (did a blog post on that once). You get some good shots of the main attractions from them, too.
I’ll post the bus tour photos (without the other passengers) as a seperate post! I hadn’t done the bus tour in many years so it was nice to get a refresher.
Haha, what a funny idea! I think I might start taking photos of photographers too!
You’ll get hooked! 😉
To tell the truth I get sick of everyone having to take a photo these days. Downside of cheap digital photography.
Gee, you have to wait for ages to get a good shot of anything these days, so many have to have a shot taken of themselves in front of some icon.
They should all stand clear and let me get my shot first!
🙂
They should always sort people by order of how cool their camera gear is.
Just wanted to chime in agreement with Jim and ryan above! LOL!
Ha ha! I love doing the same thing. Really like the photos of the couple taking a picture of themselves. Cute!
