As part of our Hong Kong trip this year we decided to take the kids to Hong Kong Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland is the newest Disney park and is by far the smallest. Opened in 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland is located on Lantau Island very near the airport. While the park can easily be seen in a single day, we decided to stay one night at the Disneyland Hotel and take advantage of discounted rates for a second day in the park. This allowed us to take things slow and go at whatever pace the kids wanted.
One of the great things about Hong Kong Disneyland is that it is easily accessible by transit. From the Central MTR station you can take a train out towards Lantau Island, switch over the the Disneyland Resort line (pictured above), and you can be at the park in less than 30 minutes. The park only has the one E-ticket thrill ride in Space Mountain and only a handful of other rides, but is a nice size for kids. Of course, it has the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster ride which you can ride over and over again if you are the least bit competitive!
The park will be expanding and is planning to add a new land in each year for the next three years so I will be sure to go back to see what’s new!
