Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria in Barcelona

Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, more simply known as La Boqueria, is a public market on La Rambla. La Rambla is the main tourist pedestrian mall running right through Barcelona and hosts many shops, restaurants,Β and street performers. Markets like these are always at the top of my must-see lists when visiting new cities and this one did not disappoint! They have many different types of stalls including fruit, veg, meat, and eggs. They also have many stalls that sell prepared foods, an absolute must for a tourist market.

These photos were taken on a Mediterranean Cruise in 2007 that started in Barcelona. The photos below were taken by my sister as I hadn’t figured out how to take nice pictures until 2009. These photos have been submitted to Travel Photo Thursday, a weekly collection of travel photos by Budget Traveler’s Sandbox. Be sure to check it out!

    • I can never get enough. I even included markets in my London Eatinerary for next month! Lots of new material for TPThursday!

    • Other than in California, it always seems that fruit tastes better outside of North America! Maybe everything tastes better when travelling?

    • Yes it is. I hadn’t heard that until after my trip, but I’m always pretty careful when travelling. At one point an older gentleman peered into our stroller to say hi to my son and I managed to smile and thank him without stopping and without taking my hand out of my wallet pocket! I was never sure if it was a set up or just a nice old man. Hope for the best but assume the worst!
