British Columbia Installs Zip Line in San Francisco

Tourism BC has installed a Zipline on the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building in San Francisco to encourage SF’ers to visit Vancouver.

As I mentioned in my post of free things to do during the 2010 Winter Olympics, a Zipline was set up across Robson Square during the games by the Whistler based Ziptrek Ecotours. This was one of the most popular free attractions downtown and regularly had wait times of 7 or 8 hours!  There was no way I was going to stand in that lineup, but I had already done the Whistler lines as well as the lines on Grouse Mountain.

For this new line you can arrive at Justin Herman Plaza in the morning and they’ll hand out fastpass-like wristbands with return times so you won’t get the “Robson Square Experience” of hanging out with strangers for an entire day. The British Columbia Experience runs from April 8th to 18th so if you are in the Golden Gate City this weekend make sure to check it out!

Sfcitizen.com has a great photo-filled post on this called What It’s Like to Ride the Fantastic Justin Herman Plaza Zip-Line – Merci Beaucoup, Canada! Hey San Fran, you’re welcome!
