Gadling Anthony Bourdain Top 10
Posted on January 31, 2010 | No CommentsGadling recently compiled a list of it's top 10 moments from Anthony Bourdain's No Reservactions. I really like this show even though it has become a bit more travel than food. They killed 5 whole minutes in the Vancouver episode with him shooting some cheesy special effects stunt shot on the set of some unknown movie. At least they went to Tojo's. -
(Mostly) Waterproof Camera Options
Posted on January 30, 2010 | No CommentsOn our first day in Hawaii we brought the camera down the pool at the Sheraton Waikiki. We had lots of fun taking shots from the edge of the pool, down the water slides, and in the waterfalls. It was there that we learned a waterproof camera lesson, though. The camera that we had was waterproof to 10 feet, and despite the fact that we were never in more than 5 feet of water the seals failed and water got in. When talking to a camera store guy, it seems that the 10 foot depth rating is based on a camera just sitting in still water. If you're down waterslides or doing cannon-balls with the camera in your pocket the water pressure far exceeds the specified max. It survived for about one more day before it fried. I only got a handful more pics in the water at Waikiki and never got to take great underwater fish shots. Live and learn. -
Holiday Inn Human Bed Warmers
Posted on January 23, 2010 | No CommentsIn the you've got to be kidding me file, Reuters is reporting that 3 Holiday Inns in the UK are offering a human bed warming service where a hotel staff member dressed in an "all-in-one fleece sleeper suit" will warm up your bed to a comfy 20 degrees -
Vancouver 2010 Ticket Information
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No CommentsAs my home town prepares to welcome the world for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, travellers may be looking to pick up some tickets before they arrive. If you are Canadian and looking for official tickets you are probably too late as most of the event tickets in Vancouver have been spoken for in 3 or 4 previous rounds of lottery and first come first serve sales. A quick check of the official ticket site shows that there are a few tickets left for some preliminary curling and preliminary hockey events but not much else. There are some Whistler event tickets left but they've restricted those to Whistler residents only to minimize highway congestion. International visitors have been directed to check with their local National Olympic Committees or official ticket agencies. A listing is provided at the Vancouver 2010 ticket site. A quick peek at a sample of those sites shows that most of these international ticket sellers are also sold out. -
Italy Food Blogs
Posted on January 18, 2010 | No CommentsWhen I first started looking for Italy Food Blogs I was quite surprised to see that there aren't a whole lot of real travel related food blogs in the initial results. The search results are markedly different than what I found when I searched for Hong Kong Food Blogs a year ago. Searching for Hong Kong or Vancouver + "food blogs" tends to result in restaurant reviews by locals and travellers.
